Information about the area
ElephantsPlettenberg Bay is described by travel writers, as the jewel of The Garden Route of South Africa and is tranquil and charming, hospitable and rather special. Originally christened “Bahia Formosa” (beautiful bay) by early Portuguese explorers, Plettenberg Bay offers the visitor miles of sweeping, un spoilt golden beaches, a dramatic rocky peninsula, intriguing lagoons and estuaries, towering indigenous forests and unpolluted rivers and sea. With its exceptional climate and beautiful view sites over the Indian Ocean, Plettenberg Bay, is perfect for visitors interested in exploring, watching or just lazing.
The bay is home to at least three species of dolphin, the bottlenose, common and humpback dolphins, southern right and humpback whales are a common sight during the winter breeding season.
The measured pace of life and community of the area, make Plettenberg Bay a uniquely therapeutic place.
This peaceful uniquely therapeutic South African environment assists recovery by providing a total break from the pressures and many of the forces that drive addiction at home. This has been found to be particularly beneficial for clients from the colder and greyer climates of Europe and the UK.
The Haven Addiction Recovery Centre is situated some ten kilometers outside Plettenberg Bay and twenty kilometers from Knysna, at the edge of the Garden of Eden area of the Knysna forest and neighboring the world renowned Knysna Elephant park.
